LANGUAGES

WHAT WE DO

Building common bonds through Language exposure & community engagement

Community Language Project is a volunteer-led model where parents, teen-mentors, and community members share their native languages and cultures with elementary school students.

STUDENTS

Cultivate curiosity, open-mindedness, and appreciation for their own and others' uniqueness from an early age, while developing global awareness.

pARENTS

Find belonging and pride in sharing their languages, creating a community where all families connect through shared educational experience.

SCHOOLS

Build stronger, more inclusive communities where diversity is celebrated and serves as a vital foundation for cultural understanding.

HOW IT WORKS

Game-based lessons for young learners

Our platform connects young students with volunteer parents, teen-mentors and community members who share their native languages and cultures.

Each language block is introduced through five 30-minute interactive lessons, run Mon-Fri and held before or after school in a small group setting.

  • My son has always been fascinated by languages, maps, countries, cultures, and flags. While he's bright and curious, traditional school settings didn't always capture his attention. The Davis World Language Program spoke to his natural interests and made him genuinely excited about learning, exploring, and coming to school EARLY.

  • This is an amazing and a very special program. My daughter had the opportunity to enjoy it a few times while at Davis school. It provided her with a wonderful experience and early exposure to other languages and cultures around the world. I appreciated the enthusiasm that the volunteers showed and how they made the experience so warm and welcoming for all children. I even wish that the program would continue at Lane school!

  • Both of my sons participated in the program at Davis, and it has had a lasting impact. It sparked a genuine interest in language and culture, motivating them to continue their learning journeys as they moved on to Lane school. It’s a wonderful, engaging way for young learners to explore the world beyond their classroom and foster an early appreciation for diversity. I am so grateful for this invaluable enrichment to our school community.

  • Being part of this program gave me the opportunity to explore creative ways to teach Russian to elementary school students. Watching  their determination to ‘crack’ such a challenging language through fun, meaningful activities was incredibly rewarding.

What I loved most was the chance to bring our culture into the classroom - our stories, traditions, songs, and playful games that connect language with identity. It made every lesson feel alive.

  • Volunteering as a Spanish instructor in this program has been a truly rewarding experience. Sharing my knowledge and experiences was both exciting and fun, especially as I watched students grow in confidence and enthusiasm while discovering a new language and culture.

  • We feel incredibly fortunate that the Bedford Public Schools offer this program. As an immigrant from Venezuela and with my husband from Italy, having a multi-cultural background is extremely important to our family. We speak three languages at home, and the WLP has been instrumental in showing our 8-year-old son that knowing another language isn't something to hide - it's an actual superpower!

  • As an Israeli immigrant and a Jewish parent to kids in Bedford public schools, this program helped me and my kids feel like we belong. It gave me the opportunity to share my language and culture as part of a united community, where all languages and cultures are celebrated and appreciated equally.

  • I have volunteered with this program for four years, and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I love sharing my passion for languages, culture, and world travel with the students. I hope my teaching sparks curiosity and encourages the students to continue learning foreign languages, which will serve as a passport to the world by opening new doors to people, cultures, and opportunities. I truly believe that education is the key to success.

  • Teaching French as part of this program is one of the most enjoyable volunteer activities I have participated in, over the years. It actually inspired me to look into teaching French full-time! While it may not result in an actual career change for everyone, it is so fun and fulfilling to share another language and culture with our young students at Davis. It's such a lovely way to start the day!
